Hello! Welcome to my pet portrait website. Feel free to browse the homepage for background on who am as an artist, my medium and inspiration.
In my portfolio section, you'll find more examples of my artwork, and how your pet will be painted.
I developed a love of art at a young age. I was inspired by my neighbour, Irene Proudfoot, who sadly is no longer with us. Starting from about 3 years old, I used to go next door to see Irene and George (her husband) and we would do arts and crafts together. I like to believe that she is the reason I do art.

Irene was a lover of animals and I know she would be happy to see that I'm continuing to enjoy art as an adult as well.
I really enjoy drawing with charcoal, I have a method for it. I use lots of different ways to get the charcoal onto the paper. I use paint brushes to get the general shapes and shawdows, paper smudging sticks for fine details, sandpaper to turn the charcoal into "dust", as well as three different types of erasers. A reguar rubber eraser, a kneadable eraser, and a fine tip eraser. The secret, though, is grey paper and white charcoal for the highlights.
Charcoal is a great medium because of how forgiving it is. I can add or remove as much as I want, and mess around with highlights until I feel like it has life.
I love animals so much. Especially my dog, Buster. He was really smart and the sweetest dog ever. After he passed in 2023 due to old age, I decided to do a charcoal painting of him. Because of that, I remembered something really important about art. That having a piece of art to help deal with loss actually helped.

If I can make art that makes other feel a little more okay with a pet that has passed, or make a pet portrait for a homesick family member, then I've truely won as an artist. Even though pets are our world, we can't always see them because of other obligations like work or school, but I don't agree with that. Pets make our day, and better our lives. I love art, because of the amazing ability it has to make us feel the same way pets do; happy and understood.
